Burglar alarm thwarts ATM robbery bid

SIVAGANGA: A robbery attempt in an Automated Teller Machine (ATM) of a nationalized bank was foiled as the burglar alarm went off in time, at Devakottai in Sivaganga District the wee hours of today. Police said the incident took place around 0145 hours at the ATM kiosk of Indian Bank at Thyagi road. An unidentifi ed man intended to steal money from the ATM and when he entered the Kiosk, he found a CCTV camera. The burglar then attempted to snap the wire of CCTV camera in order to conceal his robbery bid. But, the burglar alarm connected to the CCTV camera wire went off. On hearing the alarm, the security guard attempted to apprehend the burglar. But he managed to free himself and escaped under the cover of darkness. On a complaint from the bank authorities, police rushed to the spot and held an inquiry. Police, with the help of footage obtained from CCTV camera, were searching for the culprit.
