Sensex falls by 80.66 pts

MUMBAI: The benchmark Index of the Bombay Stock Exchange continued to decline for the fourth day today by 80.66 points to 17,092.63 in the opening session on selling across the board and negative trend in Asian Markets. The Nifty of National Stock Exchange (NSE) eased by 28.05 points to 5194.35. Global cues dragged the market further today. In sectoral indices, Metal, Oil and Gas, Realty, PSU and Bankex stocks dropped in the opening trade. The Sensex registered intra day high and low at 17,173.18 and 17,051.28 points respectively. The Nifty recorded intra day high and low at 5221.65 and 5183.50 points respectively. Jindal Steel was the major looser in the sensex pack, down more than three per cent followed by DLF, Hindalco Industries, Reliance, SBI, Bharti Airtel and ONGC. The losers were Jindal Steel by 3.08 per cent to Rs 529.15, DLF by 2.08 per cent to Rs 193.35, Hindalco Industries by 1.90 per cent to Rs 129.35, Sterlite Industries by 1.80 per cent to Rs 111.80, Reliance by 1.40 per cent to Rs 765.60 and BHEL by 1.20 per cent to Rs 272.70. The gainers were Wipro by 1.38 per cent to Rs 436.75, Hero MotoCorp by 1.07 per cent to Rs 1887, Bajaj Auto by 1.03 per cent to Rs 1728.80 and Infosys by 0.38 per cent to Rs 2859.80. Asian stocks slides today with banks and resource fi rms among the worst performers, on fresh fears of a chaotic Greek default. Key benchmark indices in China, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Japan, Singapore, South Korea and Taiwan shed between 0.02 per cent to 0.85 per cent.
