SIVAGANGA : Offi cials of
Directorate of Vigilance and
Anti-Corruption (DVAC) today
conducted raids simultaneously
in the houses and
other premises of former
DMK ministers K R Periya
Karuppan and A Tamilarasi,
their family members
and close relatives, on the
charges of amassing wealth
disproportionate to their
known sources of income
at Sivaganga, Madurai and
Chennai, today.
DVAC sources said the
raids, which began at 0630
hours were continuing at the
Offi ces of Periyakaruppan
at Thiruppathur, his houses
at native Aralipatti village,
a farm at Paikudipatti, besides
the house of DMK’s
Youth Wing Deputy Convener
“Pallathur” Ravi, a
DMK contractor Nathan.
The raids were progressing
at ten places in Sivaganga
and Chennai.
Periya Karuppan was
former Minister for Hindu
Religious and Charitable
Endowments during the previous
DMK regime.
Another DVAC team, led
by Deputy Superintendent
of Police (DSP) Tirunelveli
Thangamani raided in the
house of former Minister
for Adi Dravidar and Tribal
Welfare Tamilarasi at Ayyar
Bungalor locality in Madurai.
The ruling AIADMK
government had launched
a crackdown against the
DMK leaders and former
Ministers for alleged land
grabbing and for amassing
wealth.
The DVAC has earlier raided
the premises of former-
DMK ministers, including
K Ponmudi, D Durai
Murugan, K N Nehru, T M
Anbarasan, N.Suresh Rajan,
Pongalur Palanisamy, M R
K Panneer Selvam and K K
S S RRamachandran.
