SHG women resort to picketing

PUDUCHERRY: Tension prevailed at Brindavan area as women from Self-Help Group picketed the residence of a woman who reportedly borrowed money from them for interest and who refused to return it. While the SHG women alleged that the woman Premalatha had collected Rs.7.5 Lakh from them, the latter said only Rs.3 Lakh was collected and interest of Rs.30, 000 paid to them. Since, there is no money with her now; she sought some time for payment. Hearing the news Nagar police intervened and asked them to disperse. They were also told to lodge a complaint with D Nagar police on which action could be initiated. Meanwhile, agricultural labourers owing allegiance to the CPI on Monday took out a procession and held a demonstration at Villianur near here to press their demands. They were demanding, among other things provision of Rs.10, 000 as cyclone relief to the affected farmers and the implementation of MGNREG scheme.
