CHENNAI: Former Tamil
Nadu Chief Minister and
DMK President M Karunanidhi
today slammed the
purported comments by a Sri
Lankan Minister on the alleged
threat from Koodnakulam
Nuclear Power Plant
(KNPP) to the Island Nation
saying the project was
conceived years ago and the
comments were only aimed
at defl ecting attention from
real issues.
Answering a series of questions,
Mr Karunanidhi said
the ‘the project was not conceived
and executed in a day.
‘Work on the project had
been going on for several
years.
‘The comments are only
an attempt to divert attention,’
he said.Asked about
India’s response to the issue,
Mr Karunandhi said
he had faith about India
doing what is required. In
an apparent response to
India voting against a USbacked
resolution against
Sri Lanka at the UN Human
Rights Council,Sri Lanka’s
Energy Minister Champika
Ranawaka allegedly told
journalists at Colombo, Sri
Lanka would refer the matter
to the IAEA at its September
meeting.
He apprehended a Fukushima-
like disaster from the
nuclear power plant.
