JIPMER to organise free eye camp

PUDUCHERRY: The Ophthalmology team of JIPMER here along with Sriram Charitable Trust will be conducting a free eye camp at Thenkodipakkam in Villippuram district tomorrow. JIPMER Director Dr T S Ravi Kumar will inaugurate the camp which would be started from 0930 hrs, according to a JIPMER release here today. JIPMER has conducted several outreach camps in and around Puducherry using the ‘mobile vision centre’ which is equipped with state of the art diagnostic equipments. So far a total of 50,540 patients have been screened in 165 camps of which 30,510 patients were aged above 45 years and 1,256 of the 30,510 were noted to have glaucomatous cupping. Out of the 8,728 diabetic patients who attended the camp diabetic retinopathy was noted in 1942, Proliferative DR noted in 246 and macularedema in 156 patients. School camps were conducted in 50 schools and 10,300 students were evaluated and refractive error detected in 1,550 children.
