Thoshiba bags NTPC contract

CHENNAI: Toshiba JSW Turbine & Generator Pvt Ltd., announced that it bagged a Rs 2300 crore contract from NTPC Limited, for the supply of three 800 MW (3 x 800MW) supercritical steam turbine and generator island packages for the Kudgi Super Thermal Power Project, Stage-I, in Karnataka. Toshiba JSW has recently inaugurated its main plant facility to manufacture midand large-sized turbines and generators in Manali, Chennai. The Plant was inaugurated by Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalitha. The NTPC contract is the fi rst project for which Toshiba JSW will manufacture the complete steam turbine and generator equipment at the Chennai plant. This will be done with the support of Toshiba Keihin Product Operations in Kawasaki, Japan, which will also supply some components of the turbine and generator. Delivery of the equipment is expected to start in 2013, a company release here said. Supercritical steam turbines and generators achieve more environmental friendly power generation by higher generating effi ciency. Toshiba Group’s extensive experience in their manufacture and delivery includes delivery of 65 units in Japan and 18 units overseas. In India, in addition to other thermal power plant projects, Toshiba has already supplied fi ve 830MW supercritical steam turbines and generators for the Mundra Ultra Mega Thermal Power Plant owned by Coastal Gujarat Power Limited.
