CHENNAI : In a bizarre
incident, a ninth standard
school teacher was murdered
by her student at a
private school in the city,
today.
Police sources said the
incident took place at the St
Mary’s Anglo Indian School
situated at Armenian Street
in the busy Parry’s corner of
the city, opposite to the Madras
High Court complex.
The teacher, Uma Maheswari,
was taking ninth
standard Hindi classes
when the incident occurred
inside the classroom. Mohd
Irman, who was her student,
suddenly pounced on her,
stabbed her with a hidden
knife indiscriminately,.
The teacher suffered multiple
cut wounds on her and
stomach, even as awestruck
fellow students stood helplessly.
The teacher immediately
swooned and bled to
death on the spot.
Police quoting preliminary
investigations, said
Mohd Imran was upset after
the teacher had complained
about him to his
parents. After terrifi ed
students raised an alarm,
students from other classes
and fellow teachers took
her to Government Hospital,
where she was declared
dead.
They also overpowered
Mohd Imran and handed
him over to the police.
There were about six students
present in the classroom
when the horrifying
incident took place, the fi rst
ever such murder to rock the
Chennai City.
Tension prevailed in the
school premises and the
management declared a
holiday for the day. Senior
police offi cials rushed
to the spot. As the news
spread, panic stricken parents
rushed to the school to
take their wards home.
A large number of students
and teachers thronged the
Government Hospital where
the body of the teacher was
kept.
