Monthly Per Capita Expenditure, Delhi is the highest in India
NEW DELHI: Delhi has
the highest Monthly Per
Capita Expenditure (MPCE)
and the highest per capita
income in the country, says
a report.
Its MPCE increased from
Rs 2,078 during 2008 to Rs
2,905 in 2010 in urban area.
The per capita income of
Delhi during 2009-10 was
Rs 1, 16,886 which is also
the highest among all States
and Union Territories (UTs).
This signifi es the prevalence
of relatively better
levels of living standards in
Delhi as compared to other
states. This has been revealed
in the report titled
‘Level and Pattern of Household
Consumer Expenditure
in Delhi’, released last
evening by Chief Minister
Sheila Dikshit who is also
holding charge of the Department
of Finance.
The report has been prepared
by the Directorate of
Economics and Statistics,
Government of Delhi, an
offi cial statement said. The
report is based on a sample
survey conducted during
July 2009-June 2010 under
National Sample Survey of
66th Round. The report
is comprehensive as well
as informative. It will prove
to be of use to the planners,
researchers and policy makers.
Ms Dikshit said the report
reveals many indicators
of prosperity and preferred
heads of expenditure. She
added that Delhi is placed
much better in respect of
average expenditure as compared
to all other States and
UTs. In the urban area at the
National level, the MPCE
is Rs 1,984. It is Rs 2,905
in Delhi, the highest in the
country. The second highest
Rs 2,654 is in Himachal
Pradesh.
The MPCE in urban area
in other northern States--Rs
2,321 in Haryana, Rs 1,663
in Rajasthan, Rs 1,574 in
Uttar Pradesh, Rs 2,109 in
Punjab, Rs 1,745 in Uttaranchal
and Rs 1,759 in Jammu
& Kashmir.
