MGR Film Institute students in race for popular choice award

CHENNAI: Three students from MGR Film Institute are in the race with 37 other fi lms of popular choice award for the best fi lm in the Creating Happiness Film Competition. R Sakthi Sivabalan, K Bakkiyaraj and M Nagooran are the students in the race for the award for their fi lm ‘Salt Angels’. The movie was shot at Sterlite Industries in Tuticorin in Tamil Nadu and the fi lm is posted on the youtube for public voting and would be open till March 20. Each view of the fi lm will give them one vote, while a ‘like’ will give them three votes. The fi lm will also be viewed by an eminent jury comprising ad guru Piyush Pandey, one of India’s most revered fi lm-makers Shyam Benegal and actor and activist Gul Panag for the jury award, a press release from the Institute here said. The Creating Happiness Film Competition is the fi rst-of-its-kind MGR Film Institute students in race for popular choice award initiative where global natural resource major Vedanta invited student fi lm-makers to visit their locations and make a human interest fi lm on the impact of their community initiatives on the lives of the people. It said 114 fi lm-makers from 21 colleges have produced Thirty eight fi lms. FTII, IIMC, XIC, MGRFTI, Christ University and whistling Woods are among the 21 institutes who participated in the competition. The fi lms were shot on locations at Barmer, Udaipur, Goa, Chitradurga, Tuticorin, Korba, Lanjigarh and Jharsuguda.
