CHENNAI: Eight people,
including four members of
a family, were killed and at
least 19 people were injured
in three different road accidents
in Tamil Nadu today.
Reports received at the
police headquarters here
said four people -- a couple
and their two children
-- were crushed to death and
four others injured at Aralvaimozhi
near the southern
tip of Kanniyakumari in
Nagercoil district today.
Police said the victims
were returning to their home
town in a jeep after attending
a wedding at Tuticorin
district when the mishap occurred.
The jeep in which
they were traveling was hit
by a van coming in the opposite
direction, killing four
members of family on the
spot. The four injured were
admitted to Kanniyakumari
General Hospital. In another
mishap, four women
agricultural labourers were
killed and six others injured
when the mini van in which
they were traveling was hit
by a bus near Sankarankovil
in Tirunelveli district this
morning. The victims, all
contract labourers, were
proceeding to work in a
farm land, when the mishap
occurred. Four women
were killed on the spot and
six others, who sustained
injuries were admitted to
government hospital. In
the third accident, nine college
students were injured
when their college bus was
hit by another bus from behind
at Karur. Police said
the students received minor
injuries and were provided
treatment.
