6th convocation of Tamil University in April: VC

THANJAVUR: The sixth convocation of Tamil University will be held in April, according to M Thirumalai, Vice-Chancellor of the university. In a press release here today, he said translation of Thirukural and works of Poets Bharathiar and Bharathidasan into Chinese would be discussed with Radhakrishnan, Professor and Head of Department, Translation, and a proposal would be sent to the government. He said the government has sanctioned Rs three crore for translation which would be handed over to the university in equal installments for fi ve years. ‘’Translation work will start as soon as we receive the funds.Since Chinese is also an ancient language and spoken by a large number of people, the government has decided to fi rst translate Thirukural and works of poets Bharathiar and Bharathidasan into Chinese,’’ he added. He informed that the university would also take steps to make CDs of rare manuscripts in the university. ‘’Tamil University is a unitary university and there are no affi liated colleges to it. Hence the concept of the university will be explained to the government and funds would be sought,’’ he added.
