Mysore Zoo attracts record visitors

MYSORE: Chamarajendra Zoological Gardens here, popularly known as Mysore Zoo, witnessed a record number of visitors which crossed 30.33 Lakh during 2011-2012, the highest in the country. In a press release issued here today, Zoo Executive Director B P Ravi said the fi gures do not include those coming under free entry, visiting for research purposes and visitors on National Holidays such as Republic Day, Independence Day and Children’s’ Day. Last year, 26.7 Lakh people visited the zoo. The total revenue jumped to Rs 14.52 crore from Rs 9.56 crore. The highest number of 29,352 visitors to the zoo was recorded October six last registering a record collection of Rs 11.70 Lakh. This was made possible due to the zoo including a number of rare species to its attractions in the recent days, Ravi said.
