Young Global Leader selected by World Economic Forum

T H I R U V A N A N - THAPURAM: Director, Media and Communications to the Prime Minister, Binoy Job, have been selected as ‘Young Global Leader’ by the World Economic Forum. Binoy, hailing from Kerala, has been chosen for being instrumental in using media for social change. He has also led many social interventions for eradicating poverty, according to a press release from the Chief Minister offi ce here last night. The list comprises a critical mass of dynamic individuals and exceptional young leaders, all under the age of 40, who will impact global affairs over the coming decades and share a commitment to making the world a better place. Out of the thousands of candidates nominated each year, between 100 and 200 extraordinary individuals are honoured with the title ‘Young Global Leader.’ With major thrust on development initiatives, Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh’s Offi ce (PMO) was looking for a TV Journalist with experience in Development communication. With his Development media initiatives; and his vast experience in NDTV, Binoy fi t the bill. Thus, he became the first opment Communication and Television to be inducted into the PMO. Under Binoy’s leadership, a fi rst-of-its kind of Media Production Centre has been established in PMO to disseminate information faster through print, broadcast and social media. Binoy is also a very successful serial social entrepreneur with a dozen social ventures. With more than 2000 stories, his ‘Development Channel’ is the largest Development news portal in the world. His youth leadership initiative - ‘Leaders for Tomorrow’ is one of the largest Leadership movements for social change. Such social interventions to bring social change have fetched him recognitions like British Chevening Fellowship, Asia21 Young Leader and Asian Television Awards. He has dedicated his life for fi ghting poverty and empowering citizens, particularly the youth and spent most of his time and resources for creating platforms that could bring social change. Hailing from a humble background as the son of a little educated farmer, he started working while he was still in high school due to fi nancial constraints. A quintessential government school product, he began schooling from Kainakary, a lower Kuttanad Village in Kerala, and went on to study Journalism at Delhi University and Leadership & Globalisation at London School of Economics. Some of the eminent personalities who were honored in the past include Larry Page of Google, Sidhartha Lal of Eicher Group,Satish Reddy of Reddy’s Laboratories, Amit Burman of Dabur, Mark Zuckerberg of Facebook, and Indian politicians Sachin Pilot, Deepinder Hooda and Jyotiradita Scindia. Binoy Job is the son of Late A J Job and Ms Thresiamma Job,Arackal House, Kainakary in Alappuzha. Binoy is married to Swapna, daughter of Antony Everest, Pavana House Trippunithura. Binoy and Swapna have two children, Neil (4) and Nia(2 )
