Police, lawyers launch agitations

BANGALORE: Police, the protectors of Law and Order and lawyers, the protectors of justice have launched agitation and counter agitation in the city today.’ While police in the city and Chitradurga have started attending to their duty by wearing black badges, lawyers from all over the state assembled in the city civil court premises to launch day-long protest. Police complained against lawyers who assaulted them and burnt the police outpost in the court premises on March 2 while attacking media personnel who had come to cover production of arrested mining baron Gali Janardhana Reddy in connection with illegal mining at Special CBI court, lawyers on the other hand, alleged that police lathi charged and even lobbed teargas shells and fi red in the air without any provocation, and they torched vehicles parked in the parking lot in the court premises to bring bad name to them. Meanwhile, Chief Minister D V Sadananda Gowda and DG and IGP Shankar Bidri have appealed to the Police not to resort to any sort of agitation. Gowda talking to newsmen said that the Government has already announced a judicial inquiry into the March 2 incident with the appointment of former High Court judge Justice R G Vaidyanathan. Some of the accused have been arrested. ‘At this juncture I appeal to the Lawyers to withdraw their agitation of boycotting court proceedings’, he said, Bidri said it was not correct on the part of police personal to go on agitation as the government had already initiated action.
