BANGALORE: Police, the
protectors of Law and Order
and lawyers, the protectors
of justice have launched agitation
and counter agitation
in the city today.’
While police in the city
and Chitradurga have started
attending to their duty by
wearing black badges, lawyers
from all over the state
assembled in the city civil
court premises to launch
day-long protest.
Police complained against
lawyers who assaulted them
and burnt the police outpost
in the court premises
on March 2 while attacking
media personnel who had
come to cover production
of arrested mining baron
Gali Janardhana Reddy in
connection with illegal mining
at Special CBI court,
lawyers on the other hand,
alleged that police lathi
charged and even lobbed
teargas shells and fi red in the
air without any provocation,
and they torched vehicles
parked in the parking lot in
the court premises to bring
bad name to them.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister
D V Sadananda Gowda
and DG and IGP Shankar
Bidri have appealed to the
Police not to resort to any
sort of agitation.
Gowda talking to newsmen
said that the Government
has already announced
a judicial inquiry into the
March 2 incident with the
appointment of former High
Court judge Justice R G
Vaidyanathan. Some of the
accused have been arrested.
‘At this juncture
I appeal to the Lawyers
to withdraw their agitation
of boycotting court proceedings’,
he said,
Bidri said it was not correct
on the part of police personal
to go on agitation as the government
had already initiated
action.
