Bus driver, constable end up in row

CHENNAI: Reminiscent of a scene straight from a commercial pot boiler, a Traffi c Head Constable and a driver of the Tamil Nadu government-owned Metropolitan Transport Corporation (MTC) bus were engaged in a bitter fi ght in full view of the public at suburban Chromepet this morning. Police said the Shailesh, driver of the MTC bus (route 21-G) from Broadway to Tambaram jumped a traffi c signal before Chromepet at around 0900 hrs.Traffi c Constable Jayapaul chased the bus in his two-wheeler, intercepted it near the Chrompet bus stand and questioned the driver. A verbal duel ensued. In the process, both of them got off the bus and indulged in fi sticuffs. Later, they fought by crawling on the roads in the full glare of the public. People who were standing at the Chromepet and other bus crew intervened and separated them. No police complaint was lodged as a compromise was worked out between them.Tension prevailed in the area for some time following the incident, which had put the behaviour of both the government servants in bad taste.
