Bangalore tops in bribing for illegal parking

BANGALORE: Bangalore drivers top the leading cities in India in the bribe amount doled out by motorists to escape a ticket for illegal parking, an innovative analysis says. A sum of Rs 378 is the average bribe paid by a Bangalorean to evade an illegal parking ticket. This fi gure was arrived at based on the inputs by 96 residents in the city. Bangalore is closely followed by Delhi at Rs 350, Mumbai: Rs 320; Pune: Rs 277;Hyderabad: Rs 250 and Chennai: Rs 214. The analysis ‘Market Price of Corruption’ was carried out by the website, ipaidabribe. com, an anti-corruption initiative by the not-forprofi t organisation, Janaagraha. it is based on inputs from citizens in Bangalore, Chennai, Delhi, Mumbai, Pune and Hyderabad from the inception of the site to early March. The sample size taken into consideration for seven bribery-related offences in different cities varies as it is dependent on voluntary responses.
